Arabescato Cecco Vagli

Arabescato Cecco Vagli is a prestigious Apuan marble variety with a brecciated structure, featuring white clasts set within a matrix that may display shades ranging from grey to greenish, sometimes with rosy or ivory accents and subtle golden veining. Each slab has a unique pattern, creating interiors with a strong personality, suitable for both contemporary and classic settings.

Origin and composition

This material takes its name from the quarrying area of Vagli (Apuan Alps) and from the characteristic “arabesque” veining. Like all marbles, it originates from the recrystallization of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as a result of metamorphism; the different hues depend on minute mineral impurities (clays, sands, iron oxides, chert) present in the original rock.

Aesthetic characteristics

  • Background: milky white, with well-defined, cloud-like clasts.
  • Veining: grey/green with possible rosy or ivory tones; occasionally small amber reflections.
  • Variation: medium–high (each slab is different and one of a kind).

Recommended applications

  • Interior walls, boiserie, fireplaces, and feature panels.
  • Bathroom countertops and cladding, including steam environments (with proper installation and protection).
  • Interior flooring in residential and light- to medium-traffic commercial areas.
  • Kitchen tops and cladding, vanity tops, tables (a satin/honed finish with careful sealing is recommended).
  • Vertical exterior applications in suitable climates and with protective treatment cycles; not recommended for exterior paving subject to freeze–thaw conditions.

Available finishes

Polished, Honed, Brushed; suitable for modules, mosaics, and bespoke special pieces (waterjet shapes, inlays, countertops).

Performance and installation

  • Acid sensitivity: high, as with all marbles (avoid contact with food acids and aggressive detergents).
  • Sealing: a high-quality penetrating impregnating sealer is recommended, with periodic maintenance—more frequent on polished finishes and in wet areas.
  • Adhesives and grouts: use epoxy systems or primer + white cementitious adhesives in accordance with NSI/TCNA guidelines; joints to follow natural stone specifications.

Maintenance

  • Routine cleaning with neutral, non-abrasive detergents; wipe spills immediately (wine, coffee, oils, citrus).
  • For polished finishes, periodic use of specific waxes helps enhance brilliance.
